How often do you visit expos in your city? I do it quite often because I am always looking for inspiration and always looking to learn from the best. And because I feed my soul perhaps better than my body :-).

The choice of expositions in this year’s edition of PHOTO ESPAÑA, and outside of it, is particularly amazing. Being a portrait and child photographer in Madrid, I was drawn especially to a couple of them (all images are taken by my phone, so apologies for the quality):

SPAIN IN THE 50´S BY CARLOS SAURA – in Museo Cerralbo.

An exceptional documentary work, a photographic album of people in Spain in the 50-ties, gathered during his journeys to Cuenca, Castilla, Madrid, Andalusia and Sanabria. I have such a huge respect to photographers who manage to capture joyful children memories in circumstances  of poverty, sorrow and dejection but at the same time, of openness, hard work and humbleness. This is ex exceptional reflection on life and customs of a nation that suffered the havoc of Civil War and continued to endure poverty, repression and the lack of liberty during Franco’s regime. An absolute must, a first class food for soul!

A PHOTOGRAPHIS VISION OF JOAQUIN SOROLLA – in Museo Sorolla.

I visit this museum quite often because of a couple of paintings, the most inspirational for me being ´Madre´.

As a newborn photographer, I can´t stop looking at this image. There is so much love captured there. I wish every image I take transmitted so much. Sometimes newborn photography is about unnecessary clutter and, the baby. This painting is en epitome of peace. I want every newborn portrait I take transmit this peace and tranquility. And I want it to be the most simple possible. Less is more.

This expo is a selection of photographs that intends to recreate the creative and personal universe of Sorolla whose work inspired me previously to create beautiful beach images (  my blog earlier this month).

I found here an extensive collection of the artist’s portraits created, among others, by his father in law, Antonio Garcia, and other photographers in Spain and across the Atlantic.

I do not have to remind myself of the importance of prints – I print every single image I create whether for my clients, being a portrait, family, newborn and child photographer in Madrid. But I thought I would remind you to print your images – if photographs of your loved ones are on paper, they will last. Look at this amazing gallery of portraits of Sorolla and his family!

PORTRAITS – Fundación MAPFRE

Portrait photography, whether children photography or senior photography, is my favourite means of expression, and here, portrait is presented in 3 different sections: cities, communities and artists and models.

Cites and streets have been the basic scenario of portrait photography in the 20th century, where theatre of life takes place, with every day life acts, with citizens as protagonists often unaware of their role as actors. A must to see!

THE RIGHT TO LOVE – Isabel Muñoz – in Palacio Cibeles

This is an aesthetic experience that is a gallery of portraits go members of the LGTB community. Beautiful interaction through the camera and by telling stories of their personal experience.
